It was a busy year for the Colonial Park Committee. The following information is a summary of 2025 accomplishments at the park.

Colonial Park Trees

Palm trees located around the park were fertilized and necessary fronds removed.  In early November, thirteen young trees were planted.  Looking towards the future, these new trees will provide park visitors with shade, beauty, and environmental benefits for years to come.

New Tables

Under the park shade structure, four old blue wire-mesh tables were replaced with four new ‘Baja Red’ concrete tables.  Each new table provides more table-top work/play space and all are handicap accessible.   One of the blue wire-mesh tables was placed in the pool area providing additional seating and convenience for community members visiting the pool.

Wading Pool

The existing picnic table in the pool area received an umbrella offering much needed shade during the summer months.  The Park Committee hosted the 2nd annual opening day celebration at the pool.

Flag Pole

A solar light was installed atop the flag pole allowing the American flag to be flown 24/7.  Thank you to Jack Levin for designing the Colonial Heights neighborhood flag.  This flag will also fly atop the flagpole.

Trash Cans

Trash cans are now placed around the park with the cans along 53rd and 54th chained to a pole preventing them from blowing over during windy conditions and trash spilling onto the streets.

Dog Waste Bags

Two dog waste bag stations were installed in the park.  One station located along 53rd and the other station along 54th  streets.

Hopscotch

The faded hopscotch located near the wading pool received a major upgrade.  Artist Erik Hosino created a fun whimsical hopscotch design for children and adults to enjoy.

Basketball Court

Painting of the basketball court area was completed.  Fresh outlines were also painted around the foursquare game located in the basketball court space.

Restroom Doors

The two park restroom doors were painted to better blend with the building’s mural.

Native Garden Signpost

The native garden signpost was removed.  Plans are to upgrade the signpost with fresh paint and new posts.   When completed the signpost will be placed in the triangle native garden area (between the two playgrounds) providing a visible location for community information and announcements.

Park Cleanup Days

In 2025, the park committee hosted five park cleanups.  This year’s cleanups included tree mulching and/or tree replacement and planting, litter pickup, washing of tables, sidewalks swept and a general cleanup of the park area for upcoming community park activities.

Mural Wrap Replaced

The first mural wrap installed around the park building was removed and replaced with a new mural wrap.

Kickball/Baseball Diamond

The chain-link fence around backstop of the kickball/baseball diamond was replaced.

Cement Walkways

Work was done to smooth, grind and even-out some of the park concrete walkways.
