Tree Planting Volunteer Day

On Saturday, November 9, volunteers came out to the Colonial Park tree planting and mulching event hosted by the City Parks Department. Coordinated by the Colonial heights Neighborhood Association Park Committee, the event included planting and mulching 15 new trees at Colonial Park.
Before the hands-on work began, city park personnel provided an informative demonstration on proper planting techniques and best practices. This educational segment was essential, as it equipped volunteers with the knowledge needed to ensure the successful establishment of the new trees. Participants learned about the importance of digging the right-sized hole, the proper depth for planting, and how to effectively water and mulch the young trees to promote healthy growth.
Once the demonstration concluded, volunteers enthusiastically rolled up their sleeves and got to work, applying what they had learned to make a tangible difference in their community.
The selection of tree species and placement was made with careful consideration, aiming to create a diverse and resilient urban forest that would provide shade, improve air quality, and support local wildlife.
