Aggie Square Community Partnership CHNA Representative Nominations

The Colonial Heights Neighborhood Association (CHNA) has been invited to appoint a representative to serve on the Aggie Square Community Partnership for a 3-year term. As part of the Aggie Square Community Benefits Agreement, the Aggie Square Community Partnership (ASCP) is a group that will set priorities and make recommendations for the allocation of the Aggie Square Community Fund.

This is a high-profile position and we are looking for a collaborative, engaging candidate who will represent the interests of the neighborhood with diplomacy, equity, and dedication. CHNA hopes to select a representative who is great at listening, has demonstrated advocacy and compromise skills, experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, ability to work towards long term goals and shared vision, demonstrated ability to gather a diversity of community input and represent community voice towards a shared vision with other ASCP members.

Check out our candidate responses below! Additional information about the selection process can be viewed here. Voting will occur at our monthly membership meeting on Thursday, July 11, 2024.

Candidate Introductions

Julia Robinson

I am a Sacramento area native with a passion for making the world a better place. As you may have seen, I give out the In Our America signs because I want people who walk, bike, or drive through our neighborhood to know this is a safe, inclusive, and welcoming place. I strongly believe in being the change I want to see in the world and strive to be a better person today than I was yesterday.

Since I bought my house in 2016, I have truly appreciated the ways the neighborhood association has supported the creation of a connected Colonial Heights community. I have attended a variety of CHNA events, from the Garden Tour to the Porch Fest, volunteered to clean up and mulch the Colonial Park, and recently started joining the monthly meetings as well. My experience overall with CHNA is a positive one and I am excited to contribute to its success!

I benefitted from the hard work of others over the years to create a fun, inclusive, and engaged neighborhood. I see this as a great opportunity to give back and represent all I love about this community. I would be proud to call myself a CHNA leader and am eager to support our neighborhood’s continued success.

As the first Director of Development at the Sacramento LGBT Community Center, I had to be an efficient collaborator and communicator to both internal and external stakeholders. We had to effectively engage the public to support the Center’s mission which involved tabling at local events, the preparation of newsletters, organizing events of up to 250 attendees, and the coordination of volunteers. I enjoyed nurturing new and ongoing relationships to ensure the Center’s critical work could continue.

One of the first decisions I did the research for and advised on when I arrived at the Sacramento LGBT Community Center was about the new customer relationship management database. I evaluated our current system, determined our key requirements for a new database, and explored the cost of options available weighed against the benefits of those products which I then submitted via a proposal to the Board of Directors for their review. They moved forward with my recommendation, making a significant investment in a new system.

I strongly value equity and, especially in an 11-person partnership like the ASCP, believe it starts with listening, inclusivity, and defining a clear purpose as a group. We can then refer back to that purpose when building a selection process for releasing funds into the community as well as considering the barriers of that selection process and how that might impact communities differently. Another idea to increase equity in the selection process is to include elements like redacting names or locations from fund applicants to reduce various types of bias while also being aware of and considering those in the community that are historically underserved.

My hope is that my diplomatic nature as well as my collaboration, organization, and problem solving skills will make me successful in this partnership. I am energized by the prospect of acting in this role as it is an excellent opportunity to support and improve not only Colonial Heights but also our local community as a whole. I am eager to be of service to my neighborhood and aspire to make you all proud.
